I loved Halloween and going out in the dark to trick or treat. We were only allowed to go to houses where people knew us and could try to guess who we were. For costumes we went into the attic and found old clothes to wear. There weren't costumes bought at stores. We had an old skirt that had witches on it - I have no idea where it came from - and that was my favorite thing to wear. My mother was always very creative about suggesting games for us to play when we were "stuck" indoors in bad weather. While she was ironing I would sit at the kitchen table and she would draw five dots which I could connect to make a star. I would ask her to draw whole pages of dots.
